Destination Basketball is pure college hoops. It is the story of two lifelong best friends from Oak Harbor, Ohio, and their 15-month, around-the-world-trek to sit face-to-face with the best coaches in college hoops.

Starting with a simple idea in June 2006, Dave Bensch and Andrew Hemminger set out to accomplish the improbable. Compiling a list entailing many of the top coaches leading the most prominent and recognized programs, along with a number of past greats, the pair immediately went to work, despite possessing no clout within college basketball.

Five days after the project’s conception, the two friends found themselves interviewing their first coach - Louisville’s Rick Pitino. Fifteen months and nearly 30 coaches later, the pair had the privilege of sitting with legendary former UCLA head coach John Wooden in his longtime Los Angeles area home.

Destination Basketball is approximately 230 pages and contains 32 chapters. Each chapter that deals with a coach -29 of them - first tells the story of how the interview came to be, a short biography on the coach and the actual interview itself.

The journey took 421 days to complete and miles traveled tallied more than 27,000. Interview questions ask everything ranging from one’s philosophies on coaching, to recruiting, to influences in their lives to what they enjoy doing when away from coaching.

If you’re a fan of college basketball, we think you’ll enjoy the stories of two ordinary college guys having the chance to meet the masters of college basketball coaching.
